How to Choose a Sofa for Your Home? Is Bigger Always Better?

The sofa is the soul of the living room and an important part of family life. A comfortable, beautiful, and practical sofa can not only help you relax after a tiring day but also enhance the taste and atmosphere of your home.

However, faced with the dazzling array of sofa brands, styles, and materials on the market, do you feel confused and unsure where to start? Don't worry; this article will provide you with some tips and advice on choosing a sofa, making it easy for you to find the one you love.

1. Determine the Sofa Size

The sofa size should be chosen based on the size of your living room space—it should be neither too large nor too small. Too large will take up too much space, affecting the openness and functionality of the living room; too small will make the living room feel empty and lack coziness.

Generally speaking, it is appropriate for the sofa to take up about 1/4 of the living room area. If you have an interior designer, you can follow their recommendations; if not, you can refer to the following formula:

Background wall : Sofa size = 4:3

This formula means that if your background wall is 4 meters long, your sofa length should be around 3 meters. Of course, this formula is just a reference; the specifics should be adjusted based on the shape and layout of your living room.

In addition to the sofa length, pay attention to the following two dimensions:

Seat depth: If there are people over 1.7 meters tall in the household, choose a depth of 105 cm; if not, 95 cm is the most comfortable.

Seat height: Ensure that when sitting on the sofa, your knees and hips are in a straight line. This varies by height, but is generally between 40-45 cm.
